Cosmetogynecology is a rapidly expanding field of gynecology and plastic surgery which helps the patients to improve the functionality and aesthetics of external and internal genital organs. Negative effects of multiple childbirths and anatomical malformations can be surgically removed.
The most common procedures performed in our clinic are the following: |

LABIOPLASTY
Labioplasty is a cosmetogynecological procedure based on the modeling the shape of the patient’s small and large pudendal lips. This procedure is dedicated to women who have very large, deformed or asymmetrical labia. Labia hypertrophy or asymmetry might not only affect the patient’s well-being, but also be the cause of painful irritation (e.g. when horse riding or cycling). It might also significantly affect the patient’s sexual experiences.
There are three types of labioplasty procedures:
Labioplasty of the labia minora
This procedure reduces the size and removes the asymmetry of the patient’s labia minora. The aim of this surgical procedure is to significantly reduce or change the shape of the cutaneous folds surrounding the entrance to the vagina (labia minora). The doctor performs the procedure under local anesthesia, sedation or general anesthesia. The duration of this procedure varies between 20 and 45 minutes. All sutures used and absorbable.
Labioplasty of the labia majora due to hypertrophy
Hypertrophymight be caused by an excessive weight gain or genetic predispositions. The doctor performs the procedure under local or general (on special request) anesthesia. The duration of this procedure varies between 20 and 45 minutes. This kind of labioplasty enables to reduce the size of the patient’s labia majora with simultaneous fat pads shape modeling or liporeduction.
Labioplasty of the labia majora due to atrophy
Atrophy might be caused by a rapid weight loss or the decrease in skin elasticity. The doctor performs the procedure under local or general (on special request) anesthesia. The duration of this procedure varies between 15 and 20 minutes. During this kind of labioplasty the patient’s labia are filled with fat (collected from the patient’s umbilical region). It is also possible to inject hialuronic acid derivative.
It is possible to perform a combined labio-vaginoplasty procedure.
In all mentioned above procedures there are used absorbable stitches.
Preoperative recommendations
The treatment is preceded by a consultation visit. The following tests must be performed (it is possible to conduct them on-site):
- blood group
- morphology
- urine analysis
- coagulation blood tests - APTT, INR, PT
- ECG after the age of 40
- HBS antigen
- electrolytes
- blood sugar level
Patients are not allowed to take neither aspirin (including its derivatives e.g. Acard), Vitamin E nor any cough and anti-flu medicine for the period of two weeks before the procedure. Thus these kind of drugs adversely affect the bleeding process.
Please limit smoking to 3-4 cigarettes a day 3 days prior to surgery.
Please inform the doctor about any infections that took place two weeks prior to surgery.
Patient should remain six hours of fasting (no eating or drinking) before the surgery.
Postoperative Period
After labioplasty due to hypertrophy the patient usually stays in the Clinic overnight and is discharged home the next day. In some cases the procedure is performed on an out-patient basis. A follow up visit should take place after about 7 days. The patient regains her total physical activity after a few days and a total sexual activity after 3-4 weeks (in case of labioplasty of labia majora due to athrophy) or 6-8 weeks (in case of labioplasty of labia minora). Normally it takes about 7days for the wound to completely heal and the swelling to descent. After the surgery the patient may experience a persistent pain, which might be soothed with OTC painkillers, or a slightly increased body temperature (up to 37,5oC).
The patient should gently wash and dry the intimate area with a delicate towel several times a day. It should be done by touching, rather than rubbing as it might be the cause of the suture rupturing.
Scrupulous adherence to the recommendations described is a key operative for a rapid recovery and significantly affects the final result of the surgery.
